Explore The Local Area - Perranporth
Our campsite is situated in Penwartha Coombe, two miles from Perranporth – it is a 5-minute drive or a 35-minute walk (please use Google Maps for directions, do not follow Maps as it takes you to the B2384, which is a main road and isn’t safe). A little nearer (15-minute walk or a 3-minute drive), is our local 18th century traditional pub, called The Bolingey Inn. Here you can enjoy a peaceful pint, or some proper pub grub.
Perranporth is renowned for its unique 3-mile-long beach - fully lifeguarded by the RNLI during the summer months. The beach is very popular for surfing and there are many places where you can book lessons and/or hire equipment. The beach is also home to the Watering Hole, which is the UK’s only official ‘bar on the beach’. To watch the sunset, the Watering Hole is one of the most perfect locations. We highly recommend for Perranporth newcomers, to wonder across the beach to see the famous memorial bench which marks the spot where Winston Graham wrote the famous series of novels, Poldark.
In the village, there are a variety of cafes, restaurants and takeaways for you to visit. We recommend searching Perranporth in TripAdvisor for you to find the best places suited to you. There is also a Coop (Station Rd), lots of surfing shops and gift shops for you to explore along the main high-street.
Local activities available include: Lawn tennis court/golf course/bowling green/park/boating lake –where you can hire boats and play mini golf.
Perranporth is also part of the famous Southwest Coastal Path, which stretches 630 miles from Minehead to Poole in Dorset. From Perranporth, you could walk to neighbouring villages, such as St Agnes or Holywell Bay. If you were interested in Poldark, then we recommended Holywell as this is where many beach scenes are filmed. Also, coming soon is a cycle path, called The Saints Trail, where you and your family could enjoy a safe cycle, from Perranporth to Goonhavern.
Newquay is a popular tourist destination to visit, which is 15-minutes by car. Alternatively, Truro is also 15-minutes by car, if you fancied a bit of retail therapy. Please see www.visitcornwall.com for an essential guide of things to do in Cornwall. We recommend the Camel Trail, The Eden Project, Lands’ End and St Ives. For St Ives, we strongly advise you to catch a train from St Erth train station to St Ives, for a short journey with spectacular coastal views of golden sands and calm seas.
